Day 47. Wallpaper Bird

16 Feb

Image

Some days I just feel the need to draw. Today was one of them. I grabbed my favorite Uniball pen, a dash of watercolor and pulled out this cool old piece of wallpaper. This sheet of wallpaper  made me feel – nostalgic. And that feeling took me back to a fond memory from childhood. I recalled this elderly gentlemen in our neighborhood who kept a pet owl. I remember getting to touch it and look into its gigantic eyes. Standing just inches away from it. I was a little fella at the time and it seemed like the owls head was bigger than my own. It was wild and more incredible than anything I had ever seen on Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. (A favorite animal show from my childhood.) It’s one of those vivid memories that will always stay with me. If only rarely revisited when stumbling upon a nostalgic trigger. Enjoy.

Thank you Emjayzed. The wallpaper was my inspiration. It brought back my childhood memory of the owl. I’m glad you like it.

I love your drawing, it’s truly beautiful and so intricate! I also loved that you did it on wallpaper – for me it is wallpaper that provides the nostalgia :)

I like it, it is inspiring. It reminds me of my odd habit of finding random bits of litter to use in my art.

I agree. Since you enjoy mixed media already, why not. Since starting this blog, I have formed a new habit of picking up odd things that might, just might make their way into some art…

    Cooleo.

I have limited resources at this time (not money-wise so much as access to random bits of old things like wallpaper), but I think I will. If nothing else it would be fun to add bits into other mixed media pieces.

That is very nice of you to say. Thanks for commenting. This drawing actually took me an hour and a half. I work fast on everything. Maybe because I get bored quickly. Maybe because I work fast when I am inspired.

Thank you for the nice words. You should give it a try sometime. I know an artist who paints on old sheets from her family’s garage. It sounds bad but her work is really beautiful.

Very beautiful. I love the idea of drawing on wallpaper. I had never thought of that.

Tell me what you think.
