Day 353. Down Under Bird

18 Dec

Down-Under-Bird

Today’s Bird-A-Day art was inspired by a friend at work who lived a while in Australia. Laura had asked if I had ever done a Kiwi bird. Sadly, the Kiwi had never crossed my mind, until she brought it up. But it didn’t take any time at all for me to warm up to the idea of the bird from down under. I like how the shape of the Kiwi, mirrors the shape of this chopped piece of  wood. Enjoy.

Day 314. Pencil Scratch Bird

9 Nov

This was a complete accident. I dumped out shavings from a pencil sharpener and a bit of broken lead landed here and there. When I used my hand to clear away the shavings, bits of lead started making scratch like marks on the paper. Those slight scratches inspired today’s Bird-A-Day art. Enjoy.

Day 312. BEHR Bird

7 Nov

Back by popular demand, (by my sweetie,) I have revisited a favorite small alternative canvas. This BEHR paint chip from Home Depot made for an interesting sketch pad. Today’s Bird-A-Day art was happy to find some strong lines to land on. Enjoy.

Day 257. Pencil Sharpener Bird

15 Sep

Friday, I was actually doodling at work for a job. Imagine how fun that is for me. I love doodling. After a while I needed to sharpen my pencil and not having a pencil sharpener at my desk, I went on a search for one. Then finding a glorious, electric-powered pencil sharpener at the front desk, today’s Bird-A-Day art was born. One peek into the sharpener’s tray – filled with shavings and it was obvious this was one popular office tool. Enjoy.

Day 230. Eraser Stamp Bird

15 Aug

One pencil eraser. One Giant Ink Pad with permanent dye. And a little bit of time – tapping and dapping with the inked-up tip of my pencil eraser. That is pretty much how today’s Bird-A-Day art was created. I had this idea of ink stamping a bird, using some ordinary objects for the stamp. I soon discovered using pennies got more ink on me than the coins. By trial and error, I decided an object that kept my fingers away from the ink pad was a smart direction. It’s rather ironic, using an eraser, to create art with permanent ink. And trust me, this stuff is permanent. It does not want to come off your fingers. Yipes.

Day 91. Mondrian Bird

Yes I like Mondrian. But then who doesn’t like his grid of bold colors against white. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t like what I have done with today’s Bird-A-Day art. But, I just couldn’t help myself. Enjoy.
